Residential Program

A safe, structured, supportive environment for both men and women (primarily, though not exclusively, youth) in the Durham Region.

About the Program

The John Howard Society's Residence Programs are designed to assist participants in learning the skills necessary to live independently in the community. This includes key areas of self-sufficiency such as:

The programs also take into account the individual needs of the clients by providing counselling in areas such as anger management, substance abuse, family and relationship problems, and taking responsibility for their own lives.

To arrange for an intake interview for either residence, please contact the Transitional Worker at 905-718-1256.

The Whitby Residence

The Whitby Residence opened in October 1985 to provide a structured environment to young men aged 15 to 18 years, who are motivated to make constructive changes in their lives. The house is staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Staff teach daily living skills, and provide the on-going support which will enable clients to eventually live successfully and independently in the community.

Program fees, which include food, laundry facilities and support counselling, are $355 per month.
